What kinds of titles are included?
Non-Fiction features narrative nonfiction titles such as those with characters, storylines, and drama -- much like a novel. Genres include historical, political, adventure, travel, war, science, religious, sports, true crime, medical, animal, humor, culinary, coming of age, and more!
How are titles selected?
Each week, the Nonfiction Profiler reviews current, popular review sources such as Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and Booklist, as well as bestseller lists such as the NY Times and Amazon, to select titles. Also, older editions of the review sources are used to add backlist titles.
How often is Fiction Connection updated and does it include forthcoming titles?
Once a week. NFC does include forthcoming titles; titles are added as they are reviewed, so titles that are reviewed prior to publication are added to NFC at that time.
How far back does coverage go?
2005. We are adding older titles as we add new ones. Many popular and well-known older titles are already included.
Does Non-Fiction Connection include children’s and young adult titles?
Currently NFC only includes adult titles. Children’s and YA titles will be added in the future.
Does Non-Fiction Connection include out of print titles?
Yes, since it is a readers’ advisory tool and the libraries using it may have many out of print titles on their shelves that their patrons might still be interested in.
What do the terms in the word cloud signify?
The word cloud shows related terms to the original search terms. AquaBrowser Library compares the original search terms to the Fiction Connection data and creates a "word cloud" of associations or overviews of areas of interest. These words are suggestions for discovering new information or to users come up with ideas for a new search. The word cloud includes the most relevant associations, foreign language translations, spelling variations, and synonyms.
