From the welcome screen you can:
• enter search terms using the basic “keyword AND” in the search box;
• select “More Options” to search specifically for author, title or ISBN; or
• browse topics, genres, settings, character traits, locations, or timeframes in the tabbed browse box.

Here’s an example of a search for a particular title.

In this case, we're using the search terms "memoirs of a geisha".

The results set contains titles that have the words “memoirs” and “geisha” in them. You can see the number of times each term is found in the record. This results list is sorted by relevance, so the title Memoirs of a Geisha shows up first. You can also sort the results by year, title, or author. The word cloud on the left shows terms related to the original search.

You can also search by subject.

In this case, we're using the search terms "humorous romance".

The results set contains about 1000 results with the words "humorous " and "romance". To refine your search, you can use the "Refine results by" options on the right side of the page.

Try limiting your search for humorous romances to ones that take place in a small town by clicking the "Small town" link under "Setting".

Now you have 127 titles that are humorous romances that take place in a small town. This may still be too many titles for you, so you can refine again by choosing another link on the right.

Refine further by choosing the “Single mother” under "Character Traits".

Now, after only a few clicks, you have concise list of 13 titles that are humorous romances that take place in a small town, featuring a character who is a single mother.

What if you just read The Da Vinci Code and would like to "find other books like it"? All you need to do is search for that specific title, find the title in the results list, then click the Find Similar button found to the right of that entry in the list.

All you’ve done at this point is identify The Da Vinci Code as a title that you liked, and already, you have a list of similar titles, shown in order of relevance. If you're happy with these results, there's no need to go any further.

Have a more specific idea of what you're looking for? Then you can choose subjects associated with The Da Vinci Code to find titles that are similar in a particular way. Choose from genres, topics, locations, settings, characters, media mentions, bestsellers, and more. You’ll never hit a dead end, because the number of similar titles is shown in parentheses next to each subject.

Try checking the genre “thriller” and the topic “secret societies”.

This yields 47 titles that are thrillers about secret societies.

Notice that not only does the number in parentheses next to the subject change, but the results listing changes as well.

Click the "Clear All" link to start a new Find Similar search based on the The Da Vinci Code.

Choosing the topics “conspiracies” and “false accusations” gives you a whole new set of 49 results.

Say you’ve found a title you’re interested in, and it's the first title on the list -- The Suspect.

Simply click the thumbnail or the book title for more details.

  In the detailed title display screen, you can view a summary, reviews, awards, media mentions, and many more details about this particular title. You can email or print title details. You can also search your library’s catalog, and in some cases, see a list of online booksellers.

By clicking “Search my library’s catalog”, you will open a new browser window and go directly into your library’s catalog, where you can check to see if the title is available, place a hold, etc.

When you're done viewing the library catalog page, simply close that browser window and return to Fiction Connection, where you can continue to find the books you like, quickly and easily!
